How to Keep Your Sheepskin Rug Clean
A sheepskin rug is a beautiful investment for your home and should be cared for as such. Although wool actually requires very little care, due to it being a natural fibre, we recommend looking after your new sheepskin rug to keep it in tip top condition for years to come! Here is a guide to help you clean and maintain your sheepskin rug:
- More often than not yout sheepskin rug will just need a good shake and a brush to get it looking as good as new!
- Gently brush the sheepskin rug with a soft bristled brush. This will help fluff the fibres and keep the rug looking its best.
- Gently vacuum the sheepskin rug regularly using a handheld vacuum on the minimum setting. This will remove dirt and dust from the rug and keep it looking fresh.
- Spot clean any stains on the rug as soon as possible. Quickly mop up any spillages with a clean dry towel and if necessary use a mild wool-approved detergent and a damp cloth to gently dab away the stain. It’s important not to use normal washing powder as this can damage the natural fibres of the wool.
- If the rug is heavily soiled then it can be placed in the washing machine and washed on the coolest possible delicate or woollen setting with a very small amount of sheepskin approved detergent.
- After cleaning, hang it up to dry in a well-ventilated area. Do not expose the rug to direct heat or direct sunlight as this can cause discoloration.
- Once dry gently give the rug a light brush and it will look good as new!
